Entrepreneurs in Hampton who are looking to take the next step with their business ideas have the chance to pocket £10,000.

Richmond Council and partners will launch Richmond's Den 2013 with a special launch event on 22 March.

The competition invites local people to come forward with ideas for new social enterprises that will benefit the borough.

Last years winner was Jigsaw Care Services Plus, a local social care group, which won the £10,000 prize package.

having pitched their business proposals at the final to a panel including Sir Trevor McDonald, John Bird and Anthony Thomson and MP Zac Goldsmith.

Cllr Pamela Fleming, Cabinet Member for Community, Business and Culture said: "Last year was a great success in that the competition brought out the best in the borough in terms of entrepreneurial spirit."

"The standard of business ideas was extremely high with 95 entries and I hope we can top that this year and establish an even stronger footprint in the area of social entrepreneurship."

Entries will be invited from people who can demonstrate how their proposal could become viable and sustainable, or grow, with the right support, while maintaining a focus on a social or environmental objective.

The initial entry is designed to be simple: entrants just outline the business idea or proposal in 500 words.

Shortlisted entrants will be provided support and training if needed, with a 'pitching panel' day scheduled for 13 June.

This is designed to help entrants develop their business plans as much as it is to decide who goes through to the final.

The final event hosted by St Mary's University College will take place on 17 July and will showcase three finalists.

All entrants, including those not shortlisted, will be provided with information and support to help take their ideas further.

The competition entry window is open from 22 March, closing on 7 May at 9am.
