The Old Whitehouse building in North Hampton could be demolished to make way for a new village square.

£1 million pounds has been set aside to improve Hampton North, in order to make it a more attractive place.

The first phase of the project saw an open space created around the Old White House, including the installation of new picnic benches and play equipment.

This second stage will see the creation of a public square next to Sainsbury's, the Tangley Park Family Centre, the Hampton Youth Project and the White House Community.

Residents can now have their say on design proposals for the site, including new flower beds, grassed areas, new paving stones, fountains, cycle racks and new trees.

Councillor Virginia Morris, Strategic Cabinet Member for Environment and Planning on Richmond Council, said: "Our vision for Hampton North is to work with local people and businesses to invigorate this corner of our borough by creating a focal point for the community."

"We want to establish a 'Hampton Square' that connects different parts of the area."

"The plan is to create a contemporary but classic neutral space with a range of facilities and historical references to farming."

Alternatively, there will be an exhibition with diagrams and information at Tangley Park Family Centre from Monday 28 January to Friday 8 February where people can pop in anytime during the Centre's opening hours.
