The Jeevika Trust in Hampton Wick has been given over £60,000 to train small scale bee-keepers in Orissa, India.
The money is coming from the Department of International Development.
The idea is to train honey producers to become commercially viable and boost the local economy of the town.
Orissa is one of the most deprived regions of India and women there are particularly vulnerable to effects of poverty.
Over 300 women are to be trained and given support for wholesale production of honey as well as marketing their businesses.
International Development Secretary, Justine Greening said: "DFID already works with larger charities, but I want us to also work alongside smaller organisations."
"It is a good opportunity for us to see different approaches delivering real results on the ground."
