It has been a really positive start to the New Year for the Shooting Star Children's Hospice who received £20,000
-
One of the area's most supported charities
through fundraising by the former mayor Councillor David Marlow.
With thanks to Richmond residents Councillor Marlow visited the
Hampton hospice before Christmas to hand over the donation raising money
through events, a golf day and an annual ball.
He
said: "I have seen the heart warming service which the staff and medics at
Shooting Star provide, and I am very glad to have had an insight into their
work during my year as mayor. The £20,000 which local people have donated will
go a long way towards helping with the hospice's running costs, and I thank
everyone for that. The people using the hospice face incredible emotional
turmoil, as well as severe medical problems, and the way the staff have helped,
talked to and comforted them and their families, many who are at their wits'
end, is remarkable."
Mike
Hey, Shooting Star's head of community fundraising, said: "Councillor Marlow
was a great source of support throughout his year in office. To have collected
this amount of money was phenomenal, but to have raised awareness of the
hospice has been invaluable to us. He gave us a platform in the community which
we are very grateful for."
