Richmond Literature Festival 2012

The festival will be running from 1 November to the end of the month in venues across the whole of the borough including the new Literary Salon supported by Arts Council England.

The main festival programme includes a wide variety of novelists and leading figures from politics, journalism, sport, theatre and television including Andrew Marr, Jack Straw, and Prue Leith. This year there is also a Jubilee flavour to some of the programme with events by Tracy Borman and her history of royal weddings, Mary Killen’s ‘How the Queen Can Make You Happy’ and Jeremy Archer’s ‘A Royal Christmas at Hampton Court Palace’.

If prose isn’t what you’re looking for, poetry is also well represented this year with Roger McGough’s presentation of his new book ‘As Far as I Know’, and a special celebration of Alexander Pope at Marble Hill House.

Team GB’s Olympic success will also be celebrated with rower Greg Searle’s event ‘If Not Now, When?’ and there’s great variety with the three panel events focussing on the media, Victorians and crime fiction.

For the borough’s younger residents, the Young People’s programme features events with Emma Chichester Clark, the legendary Judith Kerr, as well as workshops for young children with Nicholas Allan and Eileen Browne. This year the Literary Salon programme includes a podcasting workshop with Radio 1 presenter, Amy Redmond, storytelling workshops, poetry, and performances from renowned spoken word artists Martin Figura, Byron Vincent, Inua Ellams and Jacob Sam-La Rose.
